Project Related Experience
1. Name of the Project : - CTBS (Consignment Tracking & Billing
system)
Duration : - Six Months.
Operating system : - Windows NT, Windows 98.
Database : - Oracle 8i
Front end : - Developer 2000
A brief description of the project:
The project was designed to keep the track of consignments across the globe. It is a very big project and I was not alone, there were eight other people involved in it. I was doing a module, which would store the name, location & code of each of the Regional Offices, Area Offices, Branch Offices & the franchisees. There were around 5 Regional Offices, 70 Area Offices, 150 Branch Offices and 1800 Franchisees, which was increasing with, an average of five franchisees per month. It is no doubt a great job to codify all this Regional, Area, Branch Offices and 1800 Franchisees, and also keep a scope open for the addition of new offices and automatic codification.
The whole data has to be up to date for the consignment tracking & Billing system to run impeccably.
My Role:
I asked the Network Department for their requirement.
Designed the RDBMS (relationship between the tables). Wrote the requirement specification for various level of offices.
I Wrote codes to meet the requirement of these offices. All these data in five different tables has to come together in a report whenever the management asks for the same. I had designed Oracle Reports for the client too.
Uniqueness of project:
This project was implemented nation-wide, Oracle 8i was used for this purpose, a snapshot of the tables created at the main office was to be replicated to all the offices present nation-wide. That was the first time I was working in a project in which the advance replication facility of Oracle 8i was used.
The tables created are mainly for the purpose of validation to be used for the consignment tracking system, even the smallest of things such as spelling of a particular place has to be right otherwise the entire tracking system can give an error. As the codification of the offices were being done for the first time so there was no scope of cross checking my mistakes, if it had happened.
2. Name of the project : - HR MIS
Duration : - 4 Months.
Operating system : - Windows NT, Windows 98.
Database : - Oracle 8.0
GUI : - Developer 2000
A brief description of the project:
The project was developed for keeping a track of employees turn over & maintenance of our nationwide employees' record. Detailed information of every employee was to be created. Every month Addition-Deletion statement, Grade-wise officers_ strength, Grade-wise staffs_ strength, resigned & retired employees' details were to be generated based
on the detailed information of each employee.
My role:
I enquired about the whole process to the HR (Human Resource) dept. Designed & created the RDBMS and required number of tables respectively.
I created six tables first one containing the information about the employee, second one for storing the PF, Gratuity percentage and Grade names, the third one for storing Region-wise Grade-wise Managers' strength and fourth for storing Region-wise, Grade-wise Staffs' strength, fifth table was for storing the resigned or retired employees, sixth one keeping the region names as they were subject to addition.
In the Employee Master table the user was to enter nine fields out of twenty rest were all to be fed by mouse. Some additional tables I created such as Region, Grade, Provident Fund Percentage etc so
that in future any changes for the calculations or Data Entry could be made easily without touching the code.
Uniqueness of the project:
In this project the entries under Grade field was to be the Field name in Region-wise, Grade-wise report, which asks for a new definition of RDBMS.
3. Name of the Project: - PIECE-RATE BONUS PLAN
Duration : - Seven Months.
Operating system : - Windows 95
Database : - Oracle 7.x
GUI : - Developer 2000
A brief description of the project:
In the Piece-rate Bonus plan every employee was to get bonus on
the number of tools he/she produced in each shift lasting 8 hours.
There were 28 Grades (approx) determined by the scale of payment
and 36(approx) types tools produced in that company. The rate of
bonus was different for different grades so were the rate different
for the different tool. So the combination of tools and grades went
up to 1008(approx). An employee was to produce a minimum number
of tools per shift in order to reach the break-even. Any number
of tools produced above that was to be considered for bonus on those
pieces for the employee who produced them. So a person could earn
bonus for the tools produced every day.
My role:
I first enquired about the whole process to the Departmental Head.
Designed & created the required number of Database tables.
I created two database tables one containing the details of the
grades and the other containing the daily production and bonus earned by each employee.
Designed the RDBMS (relationship of tables)
Drew the flow chart.
Developed the forms required with approval of the operator and the
departmental head. The block, which was to be in use every day was
did in such a manner that only the date was to be entered by the
operator rest was all click work of the mouse.
Did the codification, which computed nearly 1008 combination of grades and tools.
Ran the program for the testing along side the old system for three
months then whatever the problem cropped up debugged them one by one.
The uniqueness of the project:
The project was directly connected with salary of the employees
so a minor mistake could led to a major PR problem.
There ware many rules like a employee with higher grade could not do acting in the lower grade, an employee doing acting the higher grade should be given bonus of that grade so these rules made the project all the more complicated.
The whole program could not be on-line as there was only one computer operator, so a leave or absence could have led the whole program to a big failure.
Though the Piece-rate plan was getting computerized but the practice of maintaining records was 20 years old. So I could not make multiple forms and numeric blocks. Only one form and two blocks in it could be made for the better performance of the operator.
4. Name of the project : - EMP (Enterprise Management Package)
Duration : - Three Months
Operating system : - Windows 95
Database : - Oracle 7.x
GUI : - Developer 2000
A brief description of the project:
The project EMP was to have the daily maintenance of money and material of a filling station in the form of general voucher, ledgers, trial balance, profit & loss account and balance sheet.
My role:
I enquired about the whole process of and material transaction and demands of the filling station owner.
Designed the database tables with the help of a chartered accountant.
Drew a flow chart, again getting help from a chartered Accountant.
Developed the screen of the form with the consensus of the petrol pump owner. I made the form and 24 blocks in it with each one of them representing a table such as personal drawing, cash account etc. There was one control block for navigation.
Did the codification and wrote the program for validation.
Designed the RDBMS.
Finally implemented the program alongside the existing system and tested for debugging.
Debugged the software as long as validation went imperfect.
Uniqueness of the project:
The project was elaborate as maintenance of accounts generally so.
The entire RDBMS was to be kept in my head as long as the project went on.
The challenge was in the correct validation as single error could lead to a wrong trial balance.
5. Name of the project :- Express Accounting
Duration :- Five months
Operating System :- Windows 95
Database :- Oracle 7.x
GUI :- Developer 2000
A brief description of the project:
The accounts project of the school's income and expenditure in the form of general vouchers, ledgers, trial balance, profit and loss accounts and balance sheets.
My role:
I enquired about the whole process of money and material transaction and the demands of the school authority.
Designed the database tables with the help of a Chartered Accountant.
Drew a flow chart, again getting help from Chartered Accountant.
I developed one form with one block in it. It was a control block.
The validation of this block directly affected the database tables.
Did the codification and wrote the program for validation.
Designed the RDBMS.
Finally implemented the program and tested for debugging.
Debugged the software as long as validation went imperfect.
Uniqueness of the project:
Though it was an accounts program, but the form was designed in such a manner that straightway trial balance, profit and loss account and balance sheet could be made with the click of a mouse.
The entire RDBMS was to be kept in my head as long as the project went on.
The challenge was in correct validation as a single error could lead to a wrong trial balance.
There was no scope for updating as in accounts one cannot update. So a balancing act on the tables were done in order to maintain correct validation whenever any validation went wrong, this made the project all the more complicated.
6. Name of the project :- Service Station
Duration :- Two months
Operating System :- Windows 95
Database :- Oracle 7.x
GUI :-Developer 2000
A brief description of the project:
The project was to have the records of all the Maruti cars, which were serviced at that center. The records included the income and spending of the center also.
My role :
I enquired about the working process and demands of the clients.
Developed two forms with one having five blocks and the other with two blocks. The challenge was positive & negative validation and automatic report creation whenever the stock of spare went low.
Uniqueness of the project:
The project was done in a very short time.
The tables contained a large number of spare parts and
large number of customers. Managing the whole was challenging in the sense that the servicing center was to send a detailed report to the Maruti Udyog Ltd, the original manufacturer of Maruti Cars for the purpose of customer support. Any wrong information would have staked their agency.
7. Name of the project :- Hotel Management
Duration :- Four months
Operating system :- Windows 95
Database :- Oracle 7.x
GUI :- Developer 2000
A brief description of the project:
The project was designed to make a very user-friendly screen for the purpose of booking and billing of customers stay in a three-star hotel.
My role:
I enquired about the requirements of the hotel authorities.
Designed the database tables, there were five tables.
Did the codification, designed the Entity Relationship Diagram, and took the help of the authorities to design the screen of the form.
The status of each room was demonstrated in the reports.
The most demanded food items were shown graphically with the help of Graphics 2.5.
Uniqueness of the project:
The project was mainly reports & graphics oriented.
The specialty of it was positive & negative validation.
8. Name of the project :- Crime History
Duration :- Four months
Operating System :- Windows 95
Database :- Oracle 7.x
GUI :- Developer 2000
A brief description of the project:
The crime project was made to have the picture of various criminals and the crimes they committed across the state of West Bengal.
My role :
I enquired about the requirements of the NGO.
Scanned the pictures of the criminals into a directory.
Designed the screen as per the requirement of the NGO. The form
was designed in such a manner that a criminals crime record was displayed with the click of a mouse.
Designed the Database tables.
Did the coding , designed the GUI.
Wrote the entire program in the front-end.
The report of a criminal_s crime record was shown with the help of OLE using MS-Word as the source file.
Uniqueness of the project:
In the project, the developer 2000 front-end was extensively used with little in the back-end.
The GUI was extremely user-friendly as the entire screen was executable by mouse.
9. Name of the project :- Criminal Tracking
Duration :- Four months
Operating System :- Windows 95
Database :- Oracle 7.x
GUI :- Developer 2000
A brief description of the project:
The project had the maps of different areas of West Bengal. The pictures and criminal records of all the history-sheeters of those places were to be displayed at the click of a mouse. It also contained the statistics of various crimes committed in a particular locality.
My role:
Took the detail of the intelligence department requirement, designed four database tables, designed the system, did the coding, wrote the program mainly in the front-end.
Took the help of reports to show the details of criminal records.
Used graphics to show the statistics of various crimes, the target victim and area of the crimes.
Uniqueness of the project:
The project was an improvement over the last one as it
did not use OLE to access MS-Word used reports. MS-Word files are easily accessible and can be deleted, but Reports files are not.
All the three parts of Developer 2000 Forms, Reports
and Graphics were equally used.
10. Name of the project :- P&T
Duration :- Five months
Operating System :- Windows 95
Database :- Oracle 7.x
GUI :- Developer 2000
Brief description of the project :
The project was billing oriented. All the subscribers of the P&T department were to be listed with their bill status. Those who were considered defaulters were penalized with disconnection of the telephone line. We were to make the tables for the subscribers ready so that any defaulter should get caught as soon as possible.
My role:
There were five members in the development team. My job was to create table that of subscribers and create one table of payments that were regularly being made.
Design the RDBMS.
Wrote codes.
Wrote the program for debugging.
I made the entire part functional as desired by the Govt authorities in one form.
Uniqueness of the project:
The project was elaborate as the number of subscribers
of the P&T department runs into lakhs.
The demand though a simple one but managing such a huge database was a big challenge for me in the beginning.
11. Name of the project :- Computerized Booking System
Duration :- Two months
Operating System :- Windows 95
Database :- Oracle 7.x
GUI :- Developer 2000
A brief description of the project:
The project was designed to make a user-friendly screen for the reservation of the state transport buses.
My role:
I noted down the requirement of the transport authorities.
Designed four database tables.
Drew ERD.
Did the RDBMS design.
Did the codification, wrote the programs, used the buttons to show
the seats and triggers to show the status of the seats.
Uniqueness of the project:
The challenge was mainly to give the project in the hands of those
people who had no knowledge of computers. So with a little amount
of navigation the entire project was to be complet
